A hex socket bolt, also known as a hex head bolt or hex socket screw, is a versatile fastening device characterized by its hexagonal-shaped head and a socket drive system. This design allows for high torque applications and is commonly used in industries where precision and strength are paramount.
Material

2507 is a type of super duplex stainless steel. It has a chromium content of up to 25%, molybdenum content of 4%, and 0.27% nitrogen is added. The PREN value (corrosion resistance equivalent at points of corrosion) exceeds 40, and it performs exceptionally well in extreme corrosive environments.

The alloy content of 2507 is higher, and its corrosion resistance has been significantly enhanced. However, its price is significantly higher than that of 2205. In mild corrosive environments, 2205 can already meet the requirements; when the chloride ion concentration is high, the temperature is high, the acidity is strong, or higher strength is needed, the advantages of 2507 can be fully exerted. Both are magnetic, and their low-temperature toughness is inferior to that of austenitic steel.

Key Features

1. Extremely high resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion

2507 contains 6-6.5% molybdenum and 0.24-0.32% nitrogen. Its pitting equivalent (PREN) is as high as 42-45, far exceeding that of 2205 (about 35-37) and 904L (about 35-38). In environments with high concentrations of chloride ions, such as seawater, concentrated brine, and halogen-containing chemical media, it exhibits extremely strong resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, making it the preferred material for harsh marine and chemical environments.

2. Outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking

The alloy design with high chromium, high molybdenum, and high nitrogen gives 2507 extremely strong resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC). In high-temperature and high-pressure chloride-containing environments, its SCC resistance is superior to 2205 and far exceeds that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel, suitable for extreme conditions such as deep sea, geothermal, and high-concentration brine.

3. Extremely high strength level

The yield strength of 2507 can reach over 550 MPa, and the tensile strength exceeds 750 MPa, which is 2-2.5 times that of 316 stainless steel. This ultra-high strength allows for a greater degree of material thinning, achieving 30-40% material savings and weight reduction in pressure vessels and pipeline systems, significantly reducing transportation and installation costs.

4. Excellent resistance to strong acid corrosion

In organic acids (such as chlorinated acetic acid, formic acid) and inorganic acids (such as dilute sulfuric acid, chlorinated hydrochloric acid), 2507 exhibits stronger corrosion resistance than 2205. Its high alloy content enables it to cope with high-concentration and high-temperature corrosive media, suitable for highly corrosive chemical processes.

5. Excellent resistance to wear and erosion as well as erosion-corrosion

The hardness and strength advantages of the duplex structure, combined with excellent corrosion resistance, make 2507 perform exceptionally well in high-speed flowing media containing solid particles. It is suitable for areas prone to erosion-corrosion such as seawater pumps, valves, pipe elbows, and mixers, significantly extending equipment lifespan.

6. Good low-temperature toughness

Although it is a duplex steel, 2507 maintains good impact toughness at -50°C and even lower temperatures through optimized alloy composition and heat treatment processes. It is suitable for low-temperature environments such as deep-sea oil and gas development and polar engineering, but is generally not recommended for deep cold conditions below -60°C.

7. Excellent weldability

The welding process of super duplex steel is quite mature. By using matching welding materials and controlling heat input (usually 0.5-1.5 kJ/mm), an equilibrated weld with an austenite-ferrite ratio of approximately 50:50 can be obtained. Post-welding no heat treatment is required, but the interlayer temperature (usually ≤150°C) must be strictly controlled to ensure corrosion resistance.

8. High temperature stability

2507 can be used at temperatures below 300°C and up to 350°C for short periods. Compared to 2205, its phase stability at high temperatures is better, and it is less prone to the formation of harmful intermetallic phases (such as σ phase, χ phase), suitable for certain temperature requirements in chemical and marine environments.

FAQ

Q1: Can I install your anchor bolts in pre-existing concrete structures?

A: In many cases, it is possible to install our anchor bolts in pre-existing concrete structures. However, the process may require special techniques such as drilling and using chemical anchors or expansion anchors in some cases. It is important to assess the condition of the existing concrete and consult with a professional or our technical team to determine the best installation method.

Q2: How do I select the right size of anchor bolt for my project?

A: Selecting the right size of anchor bolt depends on several factors, including the type of structure, the load it will bear, and the characteristics of the base material. You should consider the tensile and shear forces that the bolt will be subjected to and refer to our product specifications and engineering guidelines. Our sales team can also assist you in choosing the appropriate size based on your project requirements.

Q3: What is the difference between a chemical anchor bolt and a mechanical anchor bolt?

A: A chemical anchor bolt uses a chemical adhesive to bond the bolt to the base material, providing a strong connection. It is often used in situations where a high level of precision and load-bearing capacity is required. A mechanical anchor bolt, on the other hand, relies on mechanical means such as expansion or friction to secure the bolt in place. The choice between the two depends on factors such as the type of base material, the application requirements, and the environmental conditions.

Q4: Do your anchor bolts come with any warranty?

A: Yes, we offer a warranty on our anchor bolts. The specific terms and conditions of the warranty may vary depending on the product and the application. Please refer to our warranty policy or contact our customer service team for more information.
